Hi everyone,

I have not seen much activity about it, but was curious are people still actively using the Taylor field location?  Most posts I see seem to indicate people going to 60 acres.  This field is close to where I live so I was interested in checking it out.

I know I need to be an AMA member and an nwef member to use the field per the rules, and I was curious, how exactly I go about joining?  Do I just donate my $40 through the paypal link?

Thanks much,

Brian

I'm also curious about plans for the Taylor field site since were into the new year.  With spring field use at 60 acres not too far in the future, it's probably not too early for some definitive plans to be put together for a flat grass and/or smooth runway at Taylor field?

I came across an idea recently where a guy graded a smooth area for a runway and put down a commercial landscape fabric material designed to keep weeds from growing.  I attached a picture (if it's viewable) showing it after one year of use.  It's porous so water will penetrate and not pond, and looks to be a low cost/low maintainence idea for a smooth runway, but some grass for belly-landers would also be desirable.

The other runway I've seen used is used commerical conveyor belts, as used in farming, staked down to the ground.  There used to be a RC field like that next to Toledo just west of I-5 where the tailings from Mt St Helens were bulldozed up.   The Marysville RC club used to use them too.

This spring we plan to bulldoze in a new runway and plant it with grass so it will be ready for flying come June when soccer takes over at 60 Acres for the summer.  Because there is no water at this site the grass should die off by July and will be kept very short.  A club member will donate $1,000 to get this done and I will rent a dozer and do that wor myself.  We also plan to get some members on site to pick out the rocks and rake it smooth and lay down some grass seed after.
